The European Youth Forum (YFJ) is a platform of 97 national youth councils and
international youth NGOs from across Europe. It endeavours to serve the interests of
young people from all over Europe and promote their active participation in decisionmaking
processes, working with international institutions - principally the European
Union, the Council of Europe, and the United Nations. Currently the Youth Forum counts
with a yearly budget of approximately 3 million Euros, and 24 employees.
The European Youth Forum is recruiting a new Administrative and Financial Director. This
position is based at the European Youth Forum Secretariat in Brussels and will be in
charge of the Administrative and Financial Department, currently with 6 staff members.
TASKS
· Lead and manage the Administrative and Finance Department.
· Responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the organisation.
· Monitor, analyse and report on financial and administrative planning, budgeting,
budget execution and accounting.
· Financial reporting to the European institutions, namely the European Commission DG
Education and Culture and the Council of Europe Directorate for Youth and Sports.
Includes participation in the financial meetings held with the institutions.
· Participate at statutory meetings such as Bureau, Financial Control Commission,
Council of Members and General Assemblies, reporting and advising on financial &
human resources matters .Maintain contacts with the external and internal auditors,
bank and lawyers.
· Responsible for management of human resources (including work contracts,
insurance, etc).
· Develop and implement a fundraising strategy for the organisation in cooperation
with the Secretary General and the Bureau.
· Report to and support the Secretary General.
PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
· Degree in accounting, business, finance or equivalent.
· Experience in management, team management and very good knowledge of NGO work - including the execution of large international meetings.
· Possess very good organisational, written and verbal communication skills.
· Proactive, critical thinker and problem solver, able to work in a team on a common
project.
· Good knowledge of the financial regulations of the European institutions.
· Capable of working under pressure and to tight deadlines with flexible hours and
when required, on weekends.
· Able to travel frequently.
· Based or willing to live in Brussels or its surroundings.
SKILLS REQUIRED
· Ability to prioritise work and multitask.
· Ability to meet deadlines and realise goals set by the statutory bodies.
· Extremely good organisational skills.
· Capacity to work with people from different social and cultural backgrounds.
· Fluency in English and French and good writing skills in both languages. Working
knowledge of Dutch would be an asset.
· Computer literacy, with good working knowledge of different software applications,
namely word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and internet.
· Team management, guidance or supervision (the successful candidate will manage a
team currently composed of six staff members)
TERMS OF THE CONTRACT
The duration of the contract is 5 years, with a trial period of 6 months. This is a full time
contract (35 hours per week) and the monthly gross salary will be will be up to 3.870 EUR
dependent upon prior experience. A relocation package, hospitalisation insurance and
other benefits are available. Travel expenses within the Brussels region are covered by the European Youth Forum.
